Simple Fieldnotes of a Mama is a book collection of 50 sketches selected from Luisa Hung's sketchbooks in the past 3 years. They are divided into 3 categories, namely "Food", "Religions, Rites & Spaces", and "Traditional Ways of Life". These sketches represent her keen observations and interpretations of the cultural practices and religious activities that revolve around her life in the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society of Malaysia, especially Penang. They provide an easy entry into the diverse yet complex culture of Malaysia. The artist will share with us her experience in using simple sketching tools to present the local tangible and intangible cultural heritage in a systematic and interesting way. Luisa is a Taiwanese who resides in Penang. She graduated from the Architecture Department of Tamkang University and pursued anthropological studies at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. After moving to Penang, she worked at Tan Yeow Wooi Cultural & Heritage Research Studio before becoming a full-time mother in 2010. She is currently an independent researcher as well as a freelance illustrator.
